The Alberta Percheron Club started these two annual awards in the 2012 show season. The Premier Breeder & Exhibitor Awards are based on a calculation of points collected from four shows through the year.  These shows include the Calgary Stampede, Colonial Days (Lloydminster Fair), Vermilion Fair and the Alberta Percheron Club Foal Show.  These points are divided into two categories:

Premier Breeder (registered breeder of a shown animal)

Premier Exhibitor (registered owner(s) of a shown animal)

The purpose of these awards is to encourage member participation and acknowledge the importance of promotion of our Percheron horses across Alberta.

The Alberta Percheron Club will calculate the points for each show and the winners will be announced at the AGM in February.

The Rules are as follows:

  • Point classes include:  All Registered Mare, Registered Stallion and Gelding Classes

  • Geldings- in order for a Breeder to receive points it must be shown in a Registered Gelding Class; Premier Exhibitor all gelding classes will be included

  • Mixed Breed Classes: points are only given out to the Percherons in their placing order, NOT counting the numbers from the other breeds.  (ie:  gelding class, 4 entries, 1-Clydesdale, 2 Belgian, 3 & 4 are Percherons,  Premier points would be awarded as follows:  10 points for 3rd place Percheron, 9 points for the 4th place Percheron.)

  • Points will be awarded 10 for first, 9 for second, 8 for third….10 place and the rest of the class will receive 1 point each for both Breeder and Exhibitor awards

  • The Premier Exhibitor will be awarded 5 extra points for each approved show they participate in

  • Grand and Reserve Champions do not gain any additional points

  • In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken by the highest placing in the Breeder’s Herd first, then if necessary, the Get of Sire.

  • JOINT OWNERSHIP- is considered a separate identity for points.  (ie:  Roy/Bailey, they would collect points under the Roy/Bailey ownership but not their individual stable names)

  • The highest number of points for each of the Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor will receive the annual award for each category, each participant must attend 3 out of the 5 shows to qualify for points.
